5.1 Upmix Software

TL;DR Is there a way to correctly upmix a 2.0 audio track to 5.1?I had a bizarre case for a series I was archiving. I could either re-encode the whole series and remove an eyecatch scene (I-frames would not allow me to tear it out) so that my english audio sync'd up or I could introduce the audio during the eyecatch scene to the english one.I decided to go ahead with the latter since it's a bit quicker to do.

The main issue I had was that I was adding audio from a 2.0 stream to a 5.1 stream. I settled on adding the 2.0 to the L/R of the 5.1 and added silence to the other channels but I wonder if there was a way to upmix the 2.0 track to 5.1.

I figure it must be possible given that the company that created the dub somehow did it for their release (which was evident when I viewed it in audacity).
